This papepr summarizes the findings of a round table discussion on political transition in Zimbabwe following President Robert Mugabe's possible retirement. Participants agree that Zimbabwe is in crisis and see this as a confluence of several colonial and post-independence experiences. The round table focuses on four interlinking themes relevant to the crisis in Zimbabwe, namely land and food security, governance and citizenship, civil society and democratization, and the regional and international interventions. The participants concur that Zimbabwe will have to balance economic and political exigencies and justice and reconciliation concerns in order to manage the crisis.
