This publication examines the extent to which the modalities of diamond production, which the civil war established, continue to influence the conduct of the industry in post-war Angola. To this end, the author explores local popular perceptions of the diamond industry and of its impact on the region of Lunda and on its people. The author finds that a notional peace does not guarantee respect for basic human rights in diamond exploitation or contribute to the development and well-being of the diamond-producing region.
