This publication provides a brief overview of the dynamics unfolding in the Sudan in the aftermath of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). The report focuses on the implementation of the CPA, though it gives attention only to those factors that are likely to significantly challenge the implementation process. Among these factors, the author identifies the demarcation of the Abyei boundary as the primary challenge. The author argues that the boundary dispute reflects the severity of the trust deficit between communities of the north and south, and as such provides a major stumbling block to reconciliation.
