This research paper provides a detailed account of the key issues and perspectives raised at the US Congressional hearings on the 2008/2009 financial crisis. These hearings have played an important role in investigating how and why the crisis arose, and what needs to be done in the long and short-term to rectify the problems. The paper particularly focuses on the following three issues: the US$700bn Troubled Asset Relief Program; the role of different market actors in the financial crisis; and the actions of the federal regulators.
