This paper discusses how nuclear power can address the world’s growing demand for energy while being reconciled with concerns over the spread of nuclear weapons and weakness of the nonproliferation regime. The authors explore nuclear power technologies to help resolve these issues and highlight the institutional or legal changes that may be needed to accommodate a larger nuclear power sector in the US. They concludes that nuclear power is important to help meet long-term global energy needs while contributing to energy security and contributing to significantly reduce greenhouse gases and air pollutants.
