This article evaluates the options before the EU in the pessimistic aftermath of Ireland’s "no" vote on the Treaty of Lisbon. The author puts forward several options, including repeating the referendum, writing a new treaty, keeping the Treaty of Nice with few changes, and forming a "core union" group within the Union. The author argues that European policymakers have very little room for maneuver and suggests resubmitting the Treaty to the Irish electorate after making the necessary changes.
