This article explores the regional situation in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. It shows how regional powers are involved in a convoluted way, and thus, trust between actors has reached its lowest point. The author argues that attempts by the US to isolate Syria and Iran have been futile and that as long as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not resolved, Iran’s regional influence will grow. He suggests that the EU should direct diplomatic efforts primarily at providing a common platform for all of the actors and thus for all of their interests, fears and cleavages.
