This report reviews the availability of victim support services for survivors of political violence within the context of reconciliation in Southern African countries. It focuses on Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and South Africa, providing a historical analysis of the periods of transition in these countries to contextualize the issue of victim support services. It provides a general review of victim support services and the theoretical and international considerations. It then reviews each country and their attempts at reconciliation and victim support. The report concludes by providing parallels between the particular country examples and recommendations for future strategies.
