This publication looks at the issues that shaped East Asian bilateral relations in the second quarter of 2009. North Korea's provocations, including a failed 'satellite launch' and an apparently successful nuclear test, along with the threat of never again returning to the Six-Party Talks, dominated the politics of the region. The 13 chapters look at the bilateral relationships between the key regional players, as well as Russia and the US, and describes the main issues that drove bilateral talks and meetings during this period.
