This article analyzes the causes and objective of Israel’s "Cast Lead" Operation on the Gaza Strip. The author argues that an end to armed operations in the strip will only be possible once Israel reaches its aims, mainly to weaken Hamas militarily and politically so as to prevent it from playing an active role in Middle Eastern politics.
