This article analyzes Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko’s foreign policy decisions concerning Russia, focusing particularly on the gas agreement signed in January 2009. The author argues that while Ukraine’s gas policy might make the country dependent on Russia for at least a decade, Tymoshenko will not give up Ukraine’s rapprochement with the western world, especially the EU.
