This paper examines the relations between India and Germany which, over the last decade, have substantially improved and deepened in nearly all fields. The author finds that what had once been a policy of 'benign neglect' turned into vital and vibrant partnership, especially the constant and frequent exchanges at the ministerial level and between heads of governments, clearly signalling India’s growing importance for Germany. Yet, the author concludes that Germany needs India much more than the latter needs Germany.
