This publication discusses China's engagement in Africa and the Chinese framework from the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to advance dialogue, problem solving and mutual benefit in the region. It argues that the FOCAC provides a unique diplomatic mechanism to promote dialogue between China and Africa, facilitating a common political and economic agenda to advance constructive South-South cooperation. The authors explore Chinese aid to Africa and the African response to these policies, highlighting regional issues of oil, the humanitarian crisis in Darfur, and opportunities for cooperation within FOCAC.
