This paper compares Latin American with European and North American approaches to studying social movements. It proposes some explanatory hypotheses of the differences in approaches and then underlines their continuities. In the second part, the paper shows how the contributions of the "sociology of the mobilizations" is necessary to enrich the perspectives habitually spread by social movements in Latin America.
