This meeting report summarizes the proceedings of the Oslo Forum 2009 on mediation and diplomacy. The report considers how to reassert diplomacy as the premier instrument for the resolution of armed conflict and how to improve its effectiveness given recent developments in Sri Lanka, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan which demonstrate the concurrent strand of scepticism about the usefulness of dialogue in resolving some of today’s conflicts.
