This paper discusses South Asia's economic and social future, with a particular emphasis on India. The author argues that the countries in South Asia need to seriously rethink their economic strategies. He suggests that they need to focus much more on the development of their large human resources; concentrate on building the state so that it can facilitate the process of development rather than managing it by the direct ownership of economic assets; and put more emphasis on regional collaboration and integration.
