This paper examines the impact of resource governance on the risk, duration and intensity of violent conflict in developing countries. It is based on a sample of 92 countries for the period 1996-2006. The primary focus of the study is to examine the impact of resource type, abundance and dependence on risk and duration of violent conflict and to explore the importance of the governance of natural resources in preventing or overcoming the resource curse. The research shows that the resource-conflict relationship is shaped by the quality of the governance of those resources; a correlate of good governance in general.
