This policy brief furnishes an analysis of gang rapes reported at six inner-city Johannesburg police stations. It finds that many women were raped while walking to or waiting for public transport, infringing on their freedom of movement. It also finds that men who raped in pairs or groups were often strangers to their victims, typically attacking women in public spaces and using force or weapons against them.
