This paper addresses Euro-skeptic pressure from the left- and right-wing fringes of the political spectrum of established parties in the EU. The authors suggest that it is essential for EU supporters to acknowledge that there are contradictions in European policymaking and to lift the debate on European policy to a constructive and more differentiated level instead of reacting in a strictly defensive manner to fundamental criticism.
