Nov 2007

This publication examines the rise of private security and military companies (PSCs/PMCs) in Africa. It looks at historic emergence of the industry in different parts of the continent. Subsequently, the articles analyze challenges to state sovereignty and discuss the industry's contribution to public security. The authors discuss proposals to mend the perceived lack of appropriate regulation both in terms of monitoring and quality assurance.
