This report examines three municipalities of the Nelson Mandela metropolitan in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. It reviews the municipality's safety and security arrangements as well as its crime-reduction plans. The author looks at the progress made by the local government toward the development of crime prevention and by-law enforcement initiatives. The report offers recommendations to overcome issues faced by local governments tasked with preventing crimes, such as strengthening law enforcement, promoting public safety and improving emergency services.
