The report examines issues surrounding housing policy and practice and its impact on women and vulnerable groups in South Africa. It explains concepts in housing policy and describes the criteria and process for getting access to housing for groups including abused women and refugees. The author discusses the progress to date in meeting housing policy and objectives, focusing on the achievements of the Gauteng Province at providing temporary housing for homeless populations. She summarizes issues to consider regarding the needs of abused women, and offers recommendations for the way forward.
