This report explores whether the victim offender conferencing (VOC) process assisted in dispute resolutions in South Africa. It compares cases from 2002-2003 with those mediated between 2000-2002, examining whether the VOC was compatible with serious cases, such as rape and domestic violence. It looks at the nature and number of cases dealt with and mediated, as well as those that resulted in agreements. The author concludes that the VOC process has assisted parties in the majority of cases.
