This paper reviews the UK-based police model of sector or neighborhood policing and its application in South Africa. It explains 'sector policing' as a decentralized approach to address the root causes of crime at specific geographic locations, working in partnership with local communities. The author discusses the four phased implementation process of sector policing and the implementation challenges faced by the South African police services.
