This report discusses the feasibility of establishing victim compensation schemes (VCS) in South Africa. It provides an overview of the nature and extent of violent crime in the country to realistically estimate the cost of the VCS. It explores the economic, physical and psychological impacts of violent crime on its victims and discusses the services available to them.
