This paper examines the issue of homosexual behavior in South African prisons. It examines risks such as sexual violence and coercion, the danger of HIV/AIDS transmission, the potential consequences of sexual involvement for identity and self-image, and the challenges these might pose for the societal reintegration of ex-convicts.
