This publication critiques South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) as an approach towards 'transitional justice.' It refers to the Commission's amnesty process and argues that in attempting to separate politics and crime for purposes of political reconciliation, it fails to address the complex nature of criminality. The author contends that the amnesty process has ignored the historical criminalization of political activity in the country.
