This brief analyzes EU's role in conflict resolution in the Middle East and suggests that the EU can no longer hide behind the US in this area. The author argues that given the EU's diplomatic resources, credibility and civil power, it should make use of a window of opportunity to engage in peace-making in the Arab-Israeli conflict. Given the weakened status of the US in the region it is particularly important that another powerful third-party actor steps in to take charge of the peace process, the author notes.
