This brief discusses climate change and energy policies in the EU. The author argues that given increasing public awareness of the issue, the union has a great opportunity for action and a coherent internal and external strategy shift. The author addresses energy provision difficulties, energy consumption patterns, budgetary issues and international energy management. The author concludes that there is a global need for political foresight and action on energy policy and climate change and that the EU should lead this process.
