This paper examines the importance of foreign direct investments for the region of the western Balkans. The author describes the private sector activity and regional cooperation programs and discusses prospects for the economic development of the region focusing on the role of the international community. She also presents recommendations for improving economic performance in light of the enhanced political cooperation between the EU and the region. The paper contains English and Polish versions of the study.
