This paper outlines the tightrope Germany is walking in trying to maintain economic and lower level political ties to Iran, while supporting the US position over Iran's nuclear program. Although Germany's stance has been criticized, it continues to pursue a balanced policy in light of the possible benefits the country may achieve if the problem of the Iranian nuclear program is resolved. The author examines why Iran is important for Germany; the evolution of Iran policy and the conflicts of interest at the heart of the policy.
