This note examines the reasons for and implications of the Spanish-American War within a global context. While rejecting notions of its inevitability, the text' author concludes that the war was largely a result of a series of global choices, which he briefly describes. The author additionally highlights the war’s impact on the Caribbean and the Philippines as unexpected ‘codas’ to the conflict.
