This paper presents three studies that evaluate the importance of migrant remittances - money and gifts sent to relatives back home. The author focuses on the crucial role of such economic aid. He explains how this help improves the livelihoods of poor households in many developing countries and how the financial crisis has an impact on migrant remittances.
