This paper analyzes the political conflict between Moldova and the separatist region of Transdniester. The author explains how Transdniester's semi-successful pursuit of separatism has served as hindrance to national development and economic growth in Moldova and how Transdniester's Soviet style political framework has lead the region to become a harbor of crime, corruption and political uncertainty. The author argues that the international community cannot ignore the unresolved political issues in Moldova and advocates international policy measures to help Moldova resolve its internal conflict.
