This monograph analyzes political dynamics in Latin America and evaluates their meaning for the US. The author argues that references to a uniform 'left turn' in the region are misleading, and that Latin America is in fact witnessing a dynamic competition between two very different forms of governance: radical populism and moderate centrist governance. The US, the author argues, needs to implement policies that strengthen the latter.
