This research paper discusses international criminal accountability and the role of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The author describes the history and legal evolution behind the foundation of the ICC. The paper also discusses the general difficulties of the international community in bringing war criminals to justice and the notion of state sovereignty and the respect for domestic jurisdiction as some of the main obstacles in the traditional process of prosecuting international criminals.
