As part of the EU enlargement process, the defense industry infrastructures of the new member states are being integrated into the EU defense industry base. This paper aims to examine this integration process. It provides an overview of the differing capabilities of the Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Slovakian, Bulgarian, and Romanian defense industries, and discusses ways of strengthening industrial cooperation between defense companies in Central and Eastern Europe and those in Western Europe. Additionally, the author outlines the procurement agendas vis-à-vis Western Europe of each of the six countries mentioned above.
