This dossier addresses the scope, evolution and significance of the Warsaw Pact’s Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (CMFA) from 1976 to 1990. The author discusses the CMFA’s forerunners and its functions, as well as the influence of détente, the CSCE process and the Afghan and Polish crises. She also takes into consideration questions of alliance management, the impact of Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms on the committee and on the CMFA.
