This article addresses the challenge of how the international community will develop nuclear power without furthering nuclear proliferation. The authors raise crucial questions for the future of global security, such as: Will the growth of nuclear power lead to increased risks of nuclear weapons proliferation and nuclear terrorism? Will the nonproliferation regime be adequate to ensure safety and security in a world more widely and heavily invested in nuclear power? The authors also analyze the various factors that might influence nuclear proliferation in the future.
