This paper reviews the steps taken and progress made in Asian economic integration at the sub-regional level, and recommends actions to promote Asia-wide economic integration. The author discusses the development of regionalism in South and East Asia generally before assessing trade and financial integration, and macroeconomic policy coordination in each region separately. He also analyzes economic relations between these two sub-regions, the volume of trade involved representing 5 percent of total Pan-Asian trade.
