This briefing comments on the decision to award the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to US President Barack Obama. The author argues that while the award undoubtedly is controversial, it fits into a pattern of concerns that have been quite long-term features of the Peace Committee, with a frequent focus on the prize as a matter of process rather than achievement.
