This paper is concerned with the categorization of aspects of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) political history in order to demonstrate that a number of governing principles rule the apparent 'chaos'. The authors divide their analysis into sections focusing on the constitutional order of Bosnia, its peculiarities and the methods employed to block political change, the platforms of political disagreement in BiH, and the growing issues of contention. They also address the international aspects of the crisis in BiH, involving regional actors as well as the US and EU. The publication concludes that elites in power have mastered the mechanism of 'crisis blackmail' and that the international community faces a difficult choice in seeking to stabilize BiH.
