This report discusses African capacity building for peacekeeping operations. The paper focuses on the role and impact of the UN, the African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in managing such operations on regional and sub-regional levels. The authors conclude that there are numerous areas ripe for complementary cooperation between the UN and African organizations, which could improve the general effectiveness of peacekeeping operations on the continent.
