This paper features two individual parts that discuss human security and the denial of citizenship. The first part of the paper provides the foundation for an expert group discussion on the denial of citizenship. It criticizes the failure of the international community to sufficiently address the problem of citizenship and nationality deprivation and proposes an integrated approach to the issue. The author argues that the human security approach offers a more practical instrument to explain both the causes and the consequences of citizenship denial. The second part of the report summarizes the expert group discussion on the denial of citizenship.
