This report details the policy platform and domestic and international challenges facing Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian Authority (PA). The report the Israel's planned withdrawal from Gaza, the parliamentary elections of 17 July 2005, violent anti-occupation elements, calls for financial, judicial, and security reform, and a paralyzed economy. The report asserts that some of the international challenges facing President Abbas are related to creating a viable Palestinian state based on a secure peace with Israel, and in complete compliance with the requirements of the Road Map. In conclusion, the report affirms that President Bush has set the establishment of a Palestinian state, living next to a secure Israel, as a top priority for his second term.
