This paper explores the strategic significance of ethnic conflict in Europe and its implications for regional security. The author identifies and analyzes the spectrum, patterns and other unique characteristics of ethnic conflict and addresses the difficulty of crafting policy options to include strategic objectives and political and military concepts. He assesses the implications of ethnic conflict in Europe for the US army and offers recommendations for policymakers.
