This monograph examines the state of US military-media relations from 1983 to 1996. It chronicles what the author describes as a 'troubled path' that the press and the military have traveled since Operation Urgent Fury in 1983, the US-led invasion of Grenada. The author focuses on the development of the 1992 Joint Doctrine for Public Affairs as a practical tool for reducing tensions and providing press access to the battlefield, and highlights the duality of the relationship and the efforts of both communities to find a modus vivendi.
