This monograph assesses the stability of Yemen in 1996 and outlines the attendant consequences for regional security. It highlights the decline of Yemen's strategic importance following the end of the Cold War, and surveys tensions within and between Yemen and its neighbors. Urging US policymakers to rethink relations with Sana'a, the author argues that if left unresolved, the tensions could destabilize the Persian Gulf system as a whole.
