2008

This publication reviews the year 2007 for Switzerland’s peace and human rights policies. It claims that in 2007, most of the ongoing regional peace processes in which Switzerland was directly involved either stagnated, like in Colombia and Sudan, or suffered a reversal, like in Sri Lanka. The report argues that the fact that stagnation or reversal occurred more frequently last year is to some extent attributable to the sharply increased polarization between East and West, industrialized and developing countries and between western and Muslim countries. The report also emphasizes the successes to which Swiss diplomacy was able to contribute, such as the human rights dialogue with Vietnam or the peace process in Burundi. This publication is also available in German.
