This paper presents a historical overview of unconstitutional power alternations in Africa, explores the provisions available to regional economic communities (RECs) in addressing current trends and the challenges inherent in these provisions. The authors conclude with some suggestions for improving the existing mechanisms available for mitigating the phenomenon in Africa.
